For those who won’t be following me on Twitter, or aren’t following the relevant website closely, Frogatto’s just been released for the three main platforms! Now we are only missing the Apple appstore approval, so soon this game and my levels will b…

Congratulations! I wasn’t aware that you were making such progress (last time I tried svn was 6 months ago I suppose)

I am also surprised that you decided to release/announce a open/free Win/Mac version before releasing/announcing the iPhone version. A toast to your lack of market paranoia! 🙂

Thank you for this great game.

May you win the big jackpot in your local lottery the next you play it.

  4. Kroll says:

It is awesome game. I can’t go sleep 🙂

To config buttons for my gamepad I disconnect it before tstart the game and than use Xpadder. May be in next release keyconfig option appears.

  5. Coringao says:

Very cool this game, I’ll be announcing the Ubuntu Games website. 😉

  6. noname says:

Compiled it from AUR on Arch Linux.

On level “Dungeon Crawling” there is a boss with wheels and rockets. I don’t want rockets to touch me, so I press “Down”. But boss move left and right, and when he touch me, game crashes.

Sorry for the noise, AUR PKGBUILD is broken.

But anyway, can you add ‘install’ rule into Makefile and install data into $DESTDIR/usr/share? Editing makefile is not hard but it also requires editing source code so game search for resources in /usr/share/frogatto/ or something like this.

  8. Jetrel says:

Yeah, we’re not paranoid about cannibalizing sales because computers are such a different thing than handhelds. I can’t put my computer in my pocket. I can’t bust it out whilst waiting for a bus/tram. The hand-held-ness has inherent value; just like the ability to play a game on your TV has some inherent value. So especially when it’s just a few bucks, we think people will pay for it to play it in their hand. We also think, although it’s up to you guys to determine that, that people will be thankful enough for us giving away the totally free version to support us by buying the paid version. (Although we should also have a donate button, because frankly, not everyone’s riding the iOS unicorn rainbow magic like we are.)

That said, we would actually be worried about a free version on some other major *handheld* actually cannibalizing sales, which is why if the game goes to e.g. android, we’d want to get paid.

When trying to go fullscreen with the mac by hitting the plus button on the window (in 10.6.4 OSX) the screen freezes in the window. It is a glitch I hope you would fix.I normally dont like platformers, with the exception of lbp, but this is aswsome.

  10. Ben says:

Yeah, that’s a bug; SDL doesn’t seem to support changing the resolution after setting it on Mac or Windows (works on Linux, I hear). By next release we should either figure out how to do it, or make it so you can’t change the size of the window in any way.

    Glad you like it!

  11. Thomas says:

Congradulations! I am totally addicted, thank you for such a wonderful game

  12. noname says:

Found some bug. On level “Plagued Mine” it is possible to steal key without opening the door. Is it shortcut or it is a bug?

  13. @noname: which key could you obtain this way? I am not able to find any way to get the red or silver keys without opening the gates that lead to each one.

  14. Ben says:

@Emanuel: Yeah, our gamepad support is not very good right now – we will probably fix that for next release.

  15. Emanuel says:

    hi,
i tried to play the game on a mac (10.5.8) with a logitech precision controller, but ‘up’ and ‘left’ didn’t work.

  16. con says:

    Congrats!

  17. Karim Helal says:

GREAT GAME! I loved every minute of it.

  18. draconishinobi says:

Great game indeed. Good work. Would be nice to have an options screen, but the game is still great without one.

  19. noname says:

    @shadowmaster:
silver key is right behind the door. Buy some bonus to extend tongue and you’ll be able to get it without opening the door.

  20. Hm. I guess I first made that level before you could extend your tongue that much with power-ups, so I didn’t expect anyone to do something like that.

The best solution would be to make the gate block the tongue in any case, so I’ll see what we can do. 😉

  21. Well done for finishing version 1.0! 🙂

But is there no way to play full screen?!? With these beautiful gfx I’d prefer to be fully immersed in the game, rather than playing in a window…

  22. IIRC CTRL-F switches between fullscreen and windowed mode.

this is great! you finally released the finished version.

tough i encountered a bug on the windows version :
no text appear in the text bubbles

  25. Ben says:

That is extremely odd – can you show a screenshot?

  26. Err, when i switch to fullscreen using CTRL-F, i get a black screen. Same if i resize the window…

What is up with that? Never seen anything like that before on my pc 🙁

  28. Ben says:

Yeah, fullscreen doesn’t work on Windows and Mac in 1.0 – it has been fixed since though, so it’ll work in the next version. Sorry about that.

  29. Domochevsky says:

I can’t help but notice that there is still no volume slider. It blasts at full strength. >_>

Fullscreen indeed doesn’t work. I get a grey screen when i do so.

(Also, why is the game trying to connect to the internet and then crashes when it can’t?)

  30. Domochevsky says:

Whoops, scratch that first sentence. Didn’t think to press ESC. <_<
    (Using r3315 now.)

    Is there widescreen support?

  31. Mr. Sudden says:

OMG. I love it, just found it as I searched in the Mac OS X software catalogue thingy. Kudos @Devs! This is sooo awesome. Reminds me of the times when games were total pwnage. 😀

Fullscreen with the next version is something I’m looking forward to! 🙂
